NeuroStarSystem-clipped-smYour first visit in our office will be scheduled for an initial psychiatric evaluation with Dr. Kinrys who will review your symptoms, treatment history, and decide with you if TMS is an appropriate treatment option. Based on your particular needs, Dr. Kinrys will design an individualized treatment plan. TMS therapy requires a series of treatment sessions to be effective. Typical treatment lasts about 40 mins and can vary depending on your response.

During the TMS procedure, the patient is seated in a comfortable chair, similar to one found in a salon or dentist office. Your first session could last up to an hour and a half as our psychiatrist will need to determine the place on the head where the TMS treatment will be applied and the treatment coil will be moved to that location. Our psychiatrist will first perform a test to identify your motor threshold. This test is important because it identifies the magnetic field strength that will be used in your treatment. This field strength is customized for each patient to deliver the correct treatment dose.

The TMS machine will deliver rapid “pulses” of the magnetic fields. These will feel like tapping on your scalp. Our patients typically listen to the music of their choice using noise-canceling headphones. Ear plugs are also offered.
After each treatment you can drive and resume your normal activity. TMS is non-invasive, meaning it does not involve surgery, and has no systemic effects. Some patients may experience some discomfort at the treatment site and headache which usually improve as further treatment sessions are administered.
